Muslims usually first consider the food they will consume, one of which is seafood. Want to eat seafood but still unsure whether it's halal or not?

In fact, based on the Qur'an, Allah says, "Perfected for you are sea animals and food that comes from the sea, and for those who are on a journey; and it is forbidden for you (to catch) land game, as long as you are in a state of ihram. And fear Allah to whom you are gathered (back)." (QS Al Maidah: 96).
It is not surprising that sea food, including seafood, has become a popular choice for Muslims throughout the world.
Apart from not having to worry about slaughtering rituals like land animals, seafood is also rich in protein.
According to Islamic Services of America, seafood is often sold far from its place of origin. Some are partially processed and frozen. Moreover, if seafood goes through a global supply chain, it is often processed through long production stages, which can raise questions about its halalness.
This makes it difficult for consumers to know what ingredients are contained in seafood products and how they are processed. However, to be sure and not be confused in choosing halal seafood and processed products, the following can be applied when shopping for seafood.
Pay attention to Halal Labels and certificates
This could be the easiest way to ensure the halalness of seafood products by ensuring whether or not there is a halal certification label or logo on the packaging when you want to buy it.
Apart from including a halal logo on product packaging, companies often display a halal certificate at their places of business, so it will be easily seen by the public when visiting. By obtaining a halal certificate, the product certainly meets the established halal standards while eliminating consumer doubts.
Communicate with Sellers
There's no harm in establishing direct communication with the seller. For example, by asking about the origin of their seafood products, their processing methods, or whether they have a halal certificate or not. Maybe they already have a halal certificate but haven't put the logo on it, or they're still in the process of printing it on the packaging. An honest and transparent seller will be happy to answer the questions without being offended.
Moreover, the regulations that will come into effect on October 18th, 2024, regarding food and beverage products without halal certification being prohibited from distribution have increasingly motivated entrepreneurs to hasten their products to obtain halal recognition so that they can be widely accepted by the public.
Know the Ingredients Used
Apart from seafood itself as the main ingredient, additional ingredients can affect the halalness of a product. According to the MUI, additional ingredients such as gelatin or those originating from microbial processes must be checked for halalness based on the media used and the cleanliness of the material. It is also possible for food packaging to use ingredients derived from haram meat, such as pork, which can contaminate the halalness of the packaged food. To be more sure, you can search for related information through communities or the internet independently and definitely find the halal logo on the packaging.
Choosing Halal Processed Food In fact, when choosing seafood, especially processed seafood products that have halal certification, they can easily be found in traditional markets, supermarkets, and marketplaces.
One of them is a product from Fitrafood, a frozen seafood importer and distributor company founded in 1995. The company has products that comply with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) provisions and halal certification, such as Seafoodking, which has more than 40 variants. The premium quality and delicious taste of Taste Amazing have been trusted to be the menu choice for Indonesian hotels, restaurants, cafes, catering, and family favorites for more than 17 years, until now.
